- The Child Student has not yet completed the original course linked to the CAS.
- The Child Student transitions to a new course at the sponsoring institution, provided that the new course is at the same or a higher academic level as the one specified in the CAS, and is not a preparatory foundation course intended to facilitate entry into a higher education institution.
It is essential that a Child Student continues their studies with the student sponsor that issued their CAS unless:
- They are enrolled at an institution that is a partner of their original sponsor.
- They have applied for permission to remain in the UK as a Child Student, supported by a valid CAS from their sponsoring institution. If the application is pending or undergoing an administrative review, the Child Student may continue studying at the sponsoring institution until a decision is made.
Supplementary study is allowed as long as it does not conflict with the student’s primary course.
Additionally, a Child Student is prohibited from enrolling in a State School or Academy, except in the following cases:
- If they attend a voluntary grammar school with boarding facilities in Northern Ireland.
- If the student has been granted permission to study at a sponsoring institution that later becomes a State School or Academy during their period of permission, in which case they may complete the course linked to their CAS.
Conditions and Duration of Grant for Child Student Visas
The grant of permission for a Child Student visa will be subject to the following conditions:
- No entitlement to access public funds.
- No employment allowed until the Child Student reaches 16 years of age. Once they are 16, employment is permitted as specified in CS 16.1.
- No study permitted unless explicitly stated in CS 17.
